A few months ago, we reported a rumor stating that Honda was considering a 2017 successor to the epic S2000 roadster. These rumors have now been confirmed, as have the speculations regarding its layout and powertrain. The next-generation S2000 will be powered by a mid-mounted hybrid power unit, mated to a rear-wheel drive configuration. Unlike its drop-top predecessor, the car will arrive in coupe form, at least initially.

The electric unit will be mated to the 2016 Civic Type R's 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine. The two units will combine to produce an output of more than 360 horsepower. The US-built S2000 will feature a host of aluminum and carbon-fiber components, and will be manufactured alongside the next NSX, due for arrival in 2016. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
