It's an impressive statistic and one worth sharing: 40 percent of 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray buyers are opting for the seven-speed manual transmission. That comes straight from GM's mouth who, when speaking with Edmunds, also revealed that 55 percent of buyers opt for the Z51 Performance package that includes performance brakes and suspension, an aero package, electronic limited-slip diff, silver-painted alloys and black-painted calipers.

The remaining 60 percent of Vette buyers select the six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, but next year they will also have an optional eight-speed auto to consider. Since its launch, GM has sold 19,915 C7 Stingrays. Chevy spokesperson Monte Doran admitted the Stingray - one of the most sought-after sports cars in the US - is in "short supply."
