Although it's still unconfirmed, it appears that a new 2014 Corvette Stingray will serve as this year's official Indy 500 Pace Car.
Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet by GM sources, Road & Track is claiming that the new Corvette Stingray will serve as the official pace car at this year’s Indy 500. The noted automotive publication also claims it has spy images of the actual pace car itself caught testing on a closed track with the "Official Pace Car" logo covered in camouflage. An official announcement from Chevrolet will likely come soon, considering the race itself will take place on May 26.
A C3 Corvette was first given pace car duties back in 1978 and so far the iconic American sportscar has made 11 appearances at the yearly race since then. No word just yet on this year’s car exact color scheme, but we’ve included a series of photos of previous Corvette Indy 500 pace cars for your viewing enjoyment.
