Although it may sound kind of strange at the moment, the pure electric pickup truck is coming, and Tesla wants to be the first to launch one. The company's founder and CEO, Elon Musk, has been quite vocal regarding his desire to have a pickup truck in the model lineup. If it were to happen, don't expect it to debut until after 2017 because the top priorities at the moment for Tesla are the Model X crossover and the entry level Model E. But Musk is dead serious about a Tesla pickup that would take on the likes of the Ford F-150.

Rendering artist Theophilus Chin has just unveiled his updated vision for what such a truck could look like. His previous rendering was definitely more car-like, but the new image still won't be truck-like enough for many. Both renderings are based on a unibody design, instead of the usual body-on-frame chassis. Either way, hard-core truck enthusiasts will likely never swap out their gasoline or diesel engines for a battery pack. But if Musk has his way, those same people may one day consider making the big switch.
