We've always been fans of the Audi TT, especially the TT RS. Thing is, the TT has pretty much been in a class all of its own, its nearest competitor being the BMW Z4 rather than the Porsche Boxster/Cayman. After all, both the Z4 and TT are front-engined as opposed to the Boxster/Cayman's mid-engined setup. Audi has toyed in the past with building a proper mid-engined Porsche fighter, but nothing has happened yet. According to a new report coming from Germany's Autobild, Audi may finally be making progress here.

Supposedly, Audi is working on the mid-engined R6 that'll slot above the TT but below the R8 in the lineup. No exact details were provided but we wouldn't be surprised if that so-called R6 came to fruition in the next few years. The TT has always been kind of a hard sell, mainly because the Boxster/Cayman is just so damn good. But if Audi gets this right, a potential R6 could be quite a thing.
