We've heard this rumor many times over the years, and yet BMW has never made an M7 a reality. But that may be all changing, according to a new rumor originally reported by Autobild.de. The German publication is claiming that the upcoming next generation 7 Series will in fact spawn an M version. But why did it take this long? After all, it's not like the 7 Series is an all-new thing. The reason, or rather reasons, is the Mercedes-Benz S63 and S65 AMG as well as the Audi S8.

Autobild believes the M7, which could arrive as early as 2016, will receive new side skirts, rear diffuser, and the exhaust system found on the current M5 and M6 Gran Coupe. Power would likely come from a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with an output above 600 hp. A dual-clutch transmission would also be standard. Pricing, as expected, will be quite high. Figure around 140,000 euros, and it's also fair to assume the M7 will be sold in North America as well. We'll bring you more details the moment we have them.
