Could Nissan Bring Back One Of Its Most Legendary Sports Cars?

Rumor / Comments

That's right, the Silvia could be making a comeback.

Around 2008, Nissan was riding high with sports cars. The company just wowed the world with the R35 GT-R, and replaced the 350Z with the 370Z. Infiniti also had the new G37, which was a great luxury coupe. Fast forward to 2017 and only one of those sporty models has actually been replaced. The GT-R and 370Z are really showing their age, but the former isn't close to being replaced and the latter may not even get a replacement. And though the 370Z may not get a replacement, Japanese site Spyder7 just shared a rumor about a different Nissan sports car.

We love a good Z car or GT-R, but one of our favorite Nissan models was the Silvia. The Silvia dates all the way back to the Datsun days in 1965. However, Nissan stopped building the Silvia back in 2002, with the S15 generation being the final variant. The US never received the S15, but did have versions of the S13 and S14 known as the 180, 200 and 240SX. Rumor has it that Nissan will reveal a new S16 generation Silvia at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. The Japanese site has rendered what it believes the Silvia could look like after a 15 year hiatus. This design looks really good to us, and we hope that the rumors are true.

The Silvia is rumored to come with the VC-T variable compression engine that Infiniti debuted last year. This engine is slated to debut in the Infiniti QX50 and can change its compression to maximize power or efficiency. We'll have to wait and see if this rumors pans out, but with an aging 370Z and GT-R, the Silvia could be the perfect car for Nissan right now.
