For those who didn't already know, MG is no longer the automaker that built those small two-seat roadsters throughout much of the second half of the 20th century. After years of money troubles, Chinese automaker Nanjing Automobile bought the MG plant and the rights to the brand's marquee in 2005. Then in 2007, Nanjing was bought by fellow Chinese automaker SAIC Motor who took it upon themselves to completely redo the MG lineup.

Instead of those sports cars, the first entirely new MG model in nearly 16 years was launched last year. Called the MG6, the new car is the exact opposite of its ancestors, offered as a four door sedan or a five door fastback. Sad, isn't it? But in a new report coming from Auto Express, there could be some light at the end of the tunnel. Apparently the automaker, which is still based in the UK, is considering bringing back the MG Roadster and will base it off of the MG Icon concept that was first shown at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. However, that concept was a four-passenger SUV but its styling supposedly pays tribute to the MGA and MGB GT.

Auto Express claims that both the production Roadster and hard top should arrive in 2015. Pricing should also be relatively affordable, with Auto Express stating the Roadster will base at around £14,000 (roughly $22,000). Nothing has been confirmed by the automaker just yet so we'll just have to wait and see whether this rumor has any merit.
