The 2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour is in full swing, and this custom '81 Chevrolet Camaro has already been selected as a finalist in this year's competition. This unique creation belongs to Michael Scire from South Carolina.

Scire started building the car when he was just 15 years old. With help from his father and a friend, he spent nearly two decades transforming the malaise-era muscle car into a true showstopper. The custom body shows very few signs of the Camaro, with the only hint being the rear end.

With no front fenders or doors, this custom roadster is eye-catching, to say the least. The front fascia sports a prominent radiator grille flanked by two round headlights. Paired with the lime green paintwork, the custom Camaro resembles a wheeled praying mantis.

The black-painted wheels look good and fill the rear arches nicely. The side mirrors are housed in bulges housed next to the curved windscreen and put one in mind of a concept car. At the rear, you'll find no less than six round lights. The overall effect mirrors later models of the Corvette C3. The fuel filler door sits in the middle of the light clusters.

An '81 Camaro isn't a big car, but Scire decided to make his car even shorter by reducing the wheelbase by 18 inches.

Under the hood, you'll find a 5.7-liter V8 engine with a custom exhaust system. Neither Scire nor Hot Wheels has shared any performance figures, but we're guessing the reworked V8 provides ample motivation and an enchanting exhaust note. Power is sent to the rear wheels via the original automatic gearbox.

The interior hasn't been neglected, either. A three-spoke steering wheel adds some sporting flair to the cockpit. Through it, you can see the newer instrumentation. There's also a meatier gear shifter and an aftermarket audio system.

While building his dream Camaro, Scire had to deal with a spinal injury. Not one to give up, the enthusiast pressed on and finished the build. As a result, the vehicle sports specially adapted seats that help support Scire's back. This topless Camaro is now one of the finalists, but the tour still has many more stops.

Hot Wheels will choose a finalist at every stop, with the winner immortalized as a toy car. Contestants from all over the world enter the competition and while not everybody can win, it's an amazing opportunity to get to see some of the wackiest builds the world has to offer.

Last year, a Kei car monster truck called Texas Toot walked away with top honors.
