Bugatti made headlines at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show back in March when it unveiled the La Voiture Noire. Costing $18 million, the one-off Bugatti is the most expensive new car ever made. While reports before the car's debut claimed it was bought by former VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piech, the owner of the La Voiture Noire is being kept a closely guarded secret by Bugatti.

However, a new report by Spanish publication Marca claims that Cristiano Ronaldo is the secret owner of the Bugatti La Voiture Noire. If true, the soccer star will have to wait until around 2021 to drive it, because Bugatti's one-off masterpiece is far from finished.

Bugatti confirmed to us that the car shown at Geneva was a prototype with no engine or interior and that work won't be completed for another 18-24 months. Work on the prototype began around a half a year ago when the owner agreed on a design proposal.

Built as a modern interpretation of the iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire features a bespoke carbon fiber body with an extended front end, bumpers that smoothly integrate into the body and a windshield that appears to smoothly flow into the windows at the sides like the visor on a helmet. Like the Chiron, power is provided by a 8.0-liter, 16-cylinder quad-turbo engine producing 1,479 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque.

We wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldo is the owner of the La Voiture Noire – it's not as if the wealthy soccer superstar can't afford it. He also already owns a Bugatti Chiron and bought a rare Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse after Portugal won the European Cup in 2016. Other exotic cars in his collection include a Lamborghini Aventador, Aston Martin DB9, McLaren MP4-12C, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Ferrari 599 GTO, and a Bentley Continental GTC Speed.
