Deliveries for the highly-anticipated 2021 Lucid Air electric sedan were supposed to begin in spring 2021, but unlike a competing electric car manufacturer, Lucid Motors delayed the release to make sure quality standards were met. Lucid Motors hasn't specified exactly when the car would arrive, but during a stop at the company's new studio in New York City, CarBuzz was told deliveries are expected by the end of the year.

The employee at the studio did not reveal an exact date when the first cars would arrive, but a recent email to reservation holders suggests deliveries will commence soon. The email (obtained by Daily Lucid) reads, "Get ready to confirm your Dream Edition. It's nearly time to confirm your order." With customers now confirming their orders, it's not unreasonable to think deliveries will begin this year, possibly as soon as September.

As a reminder, the Dream Edition is the most powerful and expensive Air variant, with a limited run that's already sold out. The Air Dream Edition justifies its $161,500 price tag with dual electric motors producing 1,080 horsepower. With so much power on tap, the Dream Edition needs only 2.5 seconds to hit 60 mph and 9.9 seconds to complete the quarter-mile. To help it stand out over other Air models, the Dream Edition gets special paint, interior colors, and wheels. It also bests any Tesla with a 503-mile range.

After delivering the Dream Edition, Lucid Motors will offer more affordable versions of the Air, including the Pure, Touring, and Grand Touring. These models range from $69,900 for the base Pure up to $131,500 for the Grand Touring. Even the base model seems impressive with 480 hp and a 406-mile range, while the Grand Touring steps it up significantly with 800 hp and a 517-mile range. Lucid's email only mentions the Dream Edition, so these other trims may not arrive until 2022 based on the original market timing.
