Alfa Romeo's plans have changed drastically in just a few short years. Product roadmaps from just a few years ago showed plans for sports cars like a GTV and 8C, but those projects have reportedly been scrapped to focus on electrification. 2023 is only a few days old but Alfa Romeo is already generating some hype in the new year. The Italian brand posted what could be an exciting teaser on its Instagram account, possibly teasing a new supercar.

"Roads are there to be mastered. All you have to do is get on board your #AlfaRomeo. Destination: an astonishing 2023," the caption reads. At the end of the video, a logo that appears to say "6C" shows up, hinting at a replacement for the discontinued Alfa Romeo 4C.

It may not be the 8C we were hoping for, but a 6C could still be exciting. Speaking with Autocar, Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed that the 6C could be announced as soon as March of this year. "Yes, we are working on something 'few off' (meaning a limited run) for Alfa Romeo," he said. This model will reportedly not share a platform with an existing Stellantis model like the Maserati MC20.

"It could be iconic, super-sexy and recognizable as an Alfa Romeo at first sight," Imparato confirmed. "It's not done yet, but it's ongoing. The positioning is ongoing. We have so many fans asking for something special."

Elsewhere in the teaser, it shows an Alfa Romeo logo with a lightning bolt coming out of the snake's mouth. This could hint that the 6C will be a hybrid (or even a full EV), or it may be a reference to the plug-in hybrid Alfa Romeo Tonale that's coming later this year. Alfa's future in the US market is very much in doubt, but the brand's CEO confirmed that two SUVs are coming, one that is smaller than the Tonale and one that is larger and the Stelvio. The former will arrive in 2024 while the latter will come in 2026; both will be all-electric.

A replacement for the Giulia sedan was also confirmed for 2025. "It has 5G and new era technology that will bring to market something special," Imparato described of the company's upcoming platform. Some of these models could spawn hotter Quadrifoglio variants, if they "deserve" one.

The switch to EVs should open up Alfa Romeo to bring back models from its past that we haven't seen in a while. "The best way for EV is for a Duetto, the sound of silence," he said, hinting at an electric Spider model. "It opens sedans, it opens a C-segment hatchback (like the Giulietta), so many interesting things we know."

After 2025, all core Alfa Romeo models will be electric and the whole brand will be electric by 2027. This could mean the 6C will be the last gas-powered Alfa. Let's hope it's something special.
