A Japanese magazine has uploaded more photos of what the upcoming Mazda RX-9 sports car might look like. The car is set to possibly make its debut at the upcoming 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The front takes inspiration from the new MX-5 but the rear is smooth and looks luxurious. There are many rumors as to what will power the soon-to-be revived sports car. A hybrid 800cc twin rotary with an electric turbocharger good for 450 horsepower is one guess. The 50th anniversary of the rotary engine is in 2017 and everyone is hoping for a new RX-9 to celebrate it.

A Motoring report claims that Mazda is adding new technology, including homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), which performs like a diesel engine, to the SKYACTIV powertrain to improve emissions and fuel economy. The report also states that, according to an anonymous source, if the RX-8's successor indeed debuts at the show it'll be joined by the Mazda Cosmo Sport, the world's first mass produced rotary coupe. At this point it looks like a given that the RX-9 will make its debut in Tokyo. That warms our hearts. Please don't rip them out by debuting a rotary CUV, Mazda.
