After telling you about the possibility of additional Volkswagen R models being worked on by the company, it seems that one such model might be a diesel hot-hatch in a Golf body: the Golf GTD R. According to Motoring, this model would utilize the twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine currently available in VW's European Passat. Thanks to the company's MQB architecture, this engine, which currently produces 236 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, could easily be fitted to the Golf.

This engine would be the most powerful diesel ever to be fitted in a Golf, requiring VW's 4MOTION all-wheel drive to keep it grounded. But would this heavy engine be suited to the Golf's lighter weight? Time will tell.
