Way back in January there was a rumor going around that the Corvette Z06 had lapped the Nurburgring in under seven minutes. That turned out to be a load of crap but Chevrolet never revealed the exact time. We speculated that it might be around 7:07, and now one of Autoweek's sources is saying that the Z06 lapped the Ring in 7:08. The source is apparently someone who spends a time of time and money at the track. He/she claims Chevy won't reveal the time because of the Nurburgring's ban on timed laps.

Still, if 7:08 is true then the Corvette joins some fine company. The Z06's closest competitor would be the Nissan GT-R Nismo which lapped the circuit in 7:08.68. From there the times take a huge jump to the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce's 6:59.73. Regardless, 7:08 is still better than a lot of other notable cars, including the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR, Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package and Ferrari Enzo.
