Dodge Charger Driver Caught Doing 100 Over The Limit In Detroit

Muscle Cars / Comments

Where else but in Motor City?

America loves fast cars, especially homebrewed beasts such as the Dodge Charger. This car comes in varying states of tune, and faster versions such as the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat are deceptively easy to drive fast. This isn't a problem when you're at the drag strip, but when it comes to public roads, you can quickly end up in hot water with the cops. This is exactly what happened to a man driving on the outskirts of Detroit City, Michigan on February 26th, who was caught going 155 mph in a 55 mph zone. That's 100 mph over the speed limit for those of you who struggle with math.

The driver was pulled over and immediately placed under arrest for reckless driving. After a thorough search of the vehicle, police officers found a loaded FN pistol in the center console of the car, and it also turns out that the driver was on parole.

If you're going to speed, make sure you're not carrying a criminal record and a loaded gun in the car with you, it's Street Law 101. Detroit is renowned for its love of Dodge Chargers; the city adores these cars so much that over 1,000 were reported stolen last year alone.

It is unclear what version of Dodge Charger the man was driving, but at those speeds, it's safe to bet that it was one of the more powerful versions such as the SRT Hellcat Widebody which is powered by a beastly 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that develops a crazy 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Hellcat to accelerate to 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds, and reach a top speed of nearly 200 mph. It is somewhat ironic that Dodge unveiled its Charger Pursuit vehicle last year, but we suppose it's best to fight fire with fire.
