The Challenger Redeye is about to get a four-door sibling?
Dodge refuses to even comment on this subject but we all know the real truth. At least we think we do. Several weeks ago, Dodge brought a Charger Widebody Concept to Spring Festival LX in California to gauge enthusiast owners' reactions. This one is a no-brainer, really. Of course we all want a Charger Widebody packing the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8.
We even asked Dodge about this last January at Detroit and were told it was not possible because too much of the body would have to be redesigned. How that's "not possible" is beyond us. Anything is possible if the will and money is there. And fortunately, that Charger Widebody could come fairly soon.
According to Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman, via Instagram, the Charger Redeye could debut next November at the 2019 LA Auto Show rated at a crazy 797 hp, widebody treatment and all. A previous rumor claimed the Charger Widebody would produce "only" 717 hp, but Lieberman's claim makes sense because Dodge already has all of the tooling it needs to make it happen.
And why shouldn't it? More power is more power. The Charger Redeye will also likely receive numerous performance modifications in order to handle the extra horsepower. A revised suspension, retuned steering, and beefier 20-inch wheels are all highly likely. Think of what Dodge did to turn the Challenger Hellcat into the Challenger Redeye. The blueprints and parts are all there.
As for performance, again think of the Challenger Redeye. It makes the sprint to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 203 mph. It can smash the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 131 mph. Because it has a pair of extra doors, the Charger Redeye will likely weigh a bit more than the already heavy Challenger Redeye, but we're hoping Dodge will manage to shave weight where it can. We've reached out to Dodge for additional comment and we'll update you if we hear anything. But make no mistake about it: the ultimate Dodge Charger is coming soon.
