Brass Monkey wheels are making a return.
Even with Dodge Challenger and Charger production temporarily halted due to FCA's shuttering of its North American factories over concerns of the novel coronavirus outbreak, there's a spot of good news for Mopar fans: the coveted Brass Monkey wheels are back for the Dodge SRT Hellcat Widebody models. The wheels, which debuted on the drag-racing-optimized 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, were absent from the order sheets throughout the earlier part of the 2020 model year.
Now, Mopar Insiders reports, those superb-looking wheels are back, which should delight prospective Hellcat Widebody customers everywhere.
Dodge's Brass Monkey wheels are little more than "Devil's Rim" forged aluminum alloy wheels wearing a distinct Brass Monkey finish. Despite the name, the color is really closer to bronze or dark copper in appearance, but when you see an opportunity to name a color after a Beastie Boys song, of course you take it.
On the Widebody Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat models, the Brass Monkey wheels are massive 20-by-11-inch rims that make use of the full space afforded by the fender flares, but customers of the non-Widebody models haven't been completely left out. Dodge also offers a 20-by-9.5-inch Brass Monkey wheel design for the regular Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats.
Dodge's Brass Monkey wheel option includes a black and bronze badge finish scheme, for an even more distinct look, and at a suggested retail price of just $1,095, it's easy to see why it's such a popular package.
It's still unknown when Dodge Challenger and Charger production will start up again at FCA's Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario. The 2020 model year has brought minimal changes to the SRT Hellcats - and indeed, why mess with a winning formula? We struggle to imagine what more a muscle car fanatic could want beyond rear-wheel drive, in excess of 700 horsepower, and some glorious supercharger whine to match the Hemi's distinct V8 roar.
Well, Brass Monkey wheels are a nice addition.
