It's basically a Lotus Seven on Dutch steroids.
Don’t let the name fool you. Donkervoort definitely has a solid reputation of making the iconic Lotus Seven even better. The Dutch boutique carmaker isn’t a household name. Most gearheads haven’t heard of it. But that’s OK. It’s not a brand you'll find everywhere. For those who are interested in getting hold of one of the purest forms of lightweight performance out there, you’ll need to be in Europe and willing to fork over more than €100,000 for the D8 GTO. What do you get for that hefty price tag?
Basically, the bones of a Lotus Seven modified with heavy doses of carbon fiber, and an Audi-sourced 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI with 380 horsepower. Total weight is a scant 1,532 lbs. Only 25 examples are planned. Would Lotus founder Colin Chapman approve here? We think so. Check out XCAR’s official test drive of this Dutch-built cruise missile.
