Over the last few weeks, we've watched harrowing footage of floods turning streets into raging rivers. A couple of weeks ago in Arizona, flash floods swept away a Toyota Prius, while devastating floods in Germany submerged Porsches underwater at a dealership. These conditions are making driving conditions extremely challenging. To be clear, we don't advise charging through flood water unless you're driving a vehicle with a high wading depth like a Land Rover Defender.

As we've seen before, attempting to drive through a flood in an unsuitable car can end in disaster as flood water can cause serious damage under the hood and in the cabin. In China, however, it turns out the best car for wading through deep floods is not an SUV, but an electric Tesla Model 3 sedan.

Crazy footage shared from the recent floods in China shows multiple Tesla Model 3 cars successfully drive through flooded streets as if they're boats. In one clip, a Model 3 escapes a flooded tunnel and sails past other stranded vehicles. Remarkably, this electric sedan wades through the flooded streets without getting stuck, although it isn't clear if it suffered any damage afterward. Another video taken from inside the cabin shows a Model 3 charging through deep water that comes up the hood with no trouble at all.

These videos have led to people joking that the Model 3 has a secret "boat mode." Elon Musk has hinted in the past that Teslas can be used as boats for a short period because EVs don't have exhausts that can get blocked from floodwater and the batteries, motors, and electronics are water-sealed.

Musk has also said the Cybertruck will float in water and serve as a boat for a short while, but judging from these videos the Model 3 is also capable at wading. Even so, we don't recommend trying this yourself if you end up in a similar situation.
