Drag Race: 565-HP Audi RS3 Vs. Lamborghini Aventador

Video / Comments

A tuned Audi RS3 is a force to be reckoned with.

We've seen a Corvette with 1,500 horsepower race a 2,000-hp GT-R. We've seen an insane four-rotor RX-7 race a Ferrari. And we've even seen the world's quickest C8 go head-to-head with the epic Porsche Taycan Turbo. And now the guys from Hoonigan have pitted a modified Lamborghini Avenador against a modified Audi RS3. While this may seem a little unfair, those familiar with the potential of Audi's five-pot will know that the Lambo driver is the one that should be worried.

In the yellow corner, we have a 2021 Lamborghini Aventador with a few light upgrades including some bolt-on parts like a Sheepey Race titanium exhaust system, Vorsteiner side skirts, BC coilovers, and HRE wheels. All told, it produces around 715 hp. That's an impressive package, but the seven-speed single-clutch automatic that controls the power from this 6.5-liter V12 is not that great, and at 4,100 pounds, this is not a light car.

In the Nardo Grey corner is an Audi RS3 with a bunch of parts from Integrated Engineering, the sexiest of which is a carbon fiber intake system and inlet pipe. The bolt-ons also include a front-mount intercooler and a catback exhaust. Along with some tasty Rotiform SIX wheels, this thing looks the part, and with an E85 tune, its 565-hp rating makes it a serious monster. Add to that the fact that it has a proper dual-clutch gearbox and a weight of 3,593 lbs, and you can see why this sedan can hang with supercars.

Both cars do some test hits and sound epic, but when it comes to the racing, the RS3 out launches the Lambo, although the driver may have jumped the start a touch. Despite this, by the end of the 1,000-foot race, the Aventador is in front by half a car. The Audi then removes its luggage for some weight reduction and changes the driver before round two. Both cars launch at the same time, allowing the Lambo to pull and hold a lead. Giving the RS3 a headstart of half a car, the Lambo gets a bad launch this time, although there was a passenger in the car. Still, the Lambo gets close to pulling the lead back. It just goes to show how quick a tuned Audi can be.
