Watch the C8 Corvette take on an American muscle car hero.
With a starting price tag of $58,900, the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is one of the best-value sports cars on sale, packing a 6.2-liter V8 sending up to 495 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Trips to the dyno have also revealed the mid-engine sports car is more powerful than Chevrolet claims. We've already seen the new Corvette prove itself on the drag strip against a Mustang Shelby GT500 Track Pack, Jeep Trackhawk, and Tesla Model 3.
Now, in a new video we get to see a bone-stock C8 Corvette take on several V8 American muscle car titans in a series of quarter-mile drag races at the Milan Dragway, including the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, Challenger Scat Pack, Ford Mustang GT, and fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
Finished in yellow, the C8 Corvette is equipped with the Z51 Performance Package. With its more potent 6.2-liter supercharged V8 generating a colossal 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque and massive drag radials, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye was always going to beat the stock C8 Corvette, but it's a closer race than you might think. Despite having a significant power disadvantage, the C8 Corvette crosses the quarter-mile line in 11.37 seconds - only around 0.6 seconds slower than the Red Eye, which posted a quarter-mile time of 10.77 seconds.
In the second race, the C8 Corvette is pitted against a Mustang GT. Unsurprisingly, Ford's pony car is no match for the mighty Corvette, which posts a quarter-mile time of 11.19 seconds, compared to the Mustang's 12.50 seconds.
After defeating the Mustang, the Corvette's next victim is a fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, which crosses the quarter-mile in 11.87 seconds, around 0.3 seconds slower than the Corvette's time of 11.51 seconds.
Finally, a Challenger R/T Scat Pack attempts to steal the Corvette's thunder. In terms of power, these two cars are more evenly matched: the Scat Pack has five less ponies and five more lb-ft of torque than the Corvette.
Its extra torque allows it to pull ahead, but it's carrying a lot more weight. Consequentially, it doesn't take long for the Corvette to catch up and leave it for dust, securing another victory with a quarter-mile time of 11.81 seconds compared to the Scat Pack's time of 12.26 seconds.
