The rugged appearance hides a plush, feature-packed interior and a supercharged LT4 engine.
ECD Automotive Design is famous for its retro-modded and often exuberantly powerful classic Land Rover models, and its latest is a Defender 110 equipped with a supercharged LT4 engine built to get out into the wildest of landscapes. The name given to this Defender 110 undertaking, Project Mayhem, tells you everything you need to know about this tough vehicle.
"It's all black, it's aggressive, it's mean - completely modernized to take on any obstacle on or off-road," said ECD Co-Founder Tom Humble. "Our master craftsmen stripped this old Defender down to its bare bones and brought it back to life as an off-roading demon."
To complete the aggressive look while upgrading the long-wheelbase Defender's abilities, Project Mayhem uses 33-inch BF Goodrich All Terrain tires wrapped around 20-inch Khan Mondial Retro wheels with black Brembo calipers visible behind. Other off-road goodies include ECD Air Ride suspension, an upgraded limited-slip differential, a quad exhaust with a black ceramic coating, and four Hella LED lights. Then, for safety, ECD adds a full rear window cage and an exterior roll cage.
ECD didn't neglect the Project Mayhem's interior; in fact, the company went nuts inside the Defender 110. Its 2+2+4 seating layout features four heated Corbeau Reclining Racing Seats (including individual second-row buckets) wrapped in Hans Reinke steel-colored leather with vertical diamond single stitching in front of the rear inward-facing bench seats. The cargo flooring, back panels, and back door gate are finished with black-stained teak wood.
Project Mayhem's driver sits behind a MOMO Nero steering wheel. Then, for everyone, there's a sunroof, an Infinity Kappa sound system (including a subwoofer), three wireless charging ports, three USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The dashboard is wrapped in Hans Reinke 1912B Schwarz Catania leather, while in the cluster are retro-styled All American gauges. The infotainment screen and software are Kenwood eXcelon.
For detail, the exterior paint is Santorini Black in Gloss with the roof having the same finish. There's Defender lettering on the hood, sunroof, and steering guard along with engraved Mayhem badging.
Even by ECD's high standards, Project Mayhem supremely combines the best of old-school Land Rover style with modern mechanicals and features.
