The BMW i4 has only just been revealed, but already, M Performance parts for the all-electric Bimmer have been created. However, that's not all the fanfare the EV is getting. BMW has a long history of supplying safety cars for MotoGP, the two-wheeled version of Formula One. And now the BMW safety car family is being increased to include the i4 M50, as the EV will do duty in a series that those who think four wheels is excessive will love. Called the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, this series features only electric motorcycles and has been a part of the MotoGP world championship since 2019.

Last season, BMW's safety car for the MotoE series was the BMW i8, but now that the i4 is on the way, it makes sense for the aging sports car to step aside. All the MotoE races this season will feature i4 M50 safety car, and it'll be difficult to miss. Along with the obligatory light bar on the roof, the matte gray body is decorated with vivid green vinyl decals and M tricolor striping along the accent blade. That bright green and the M tricolor theme continue in the rear diffuser and the front fascia, but some may take offense to the highlighting of those front nostrils, which actually look at home on the production version.

If you'd like to judge how the i4 looks for yourself and in the metal, the Austrian leg of the MotoGP championship takes place in two weeks' time, on August 15th. The Red Bull Ring will play host to the first race of the MotoE World Cup where the i4 will make its world premiere ahead of the production car's market release in the autumn.

BMW M's CEO, Markus Flasch, says, "With the first M BEV, we are setting course for a future, in which the combination of extremely sporty, performance vehicles and electrification is an exciting theme. We are showing that everything people have come to value about M - the typical emotional M driving experience with sportiness, power, and dynamics - is also possible in a fully-electric vehicle."

We'll get a taste of that in a fortnight.
