Kia has excelled in many segments of the market, with its SUV lineup being particularly popular. We also loved the new Carnival, a minivan masquerading as an SUV, and we expect great things from the upcoming Kia EV6. However, the higher up the price scale you go, the more brand cachet becomes part of the equation, and here Kia still faces some limitations. That's why the slow-selling K900 large sedan was eventually discontinued, and it's also probably why Kia doesn't have a halo sports car. But based on this design study for an electric Kia halo coupe, perhaps the Korean marque should consider pushing the envelope and building such a car.

This concept was completed by a designer named Serkan Budur as part of an internship he completed at Kia Motors Europe. He has previously shown off a magnificent Bugatti concept, and this Kia is nearly as arresting. The sleek, elegant coupe is quite unlike anything that the Korean automaker currently sells. Budur's concept looks like a posh GT. In front, there are incredibly long, slim headlights - these remind us of the Bugatti Centodieci's slit-like headlights. The Kia has no traditional grille, but of course, there's no need for one in an electric car. Like many concept cars, there are huge wheels that completely fill the arches. There are no obvious door handles to detract from the sleek lines, and there's a classic coupe roofline that gracefully flows to the rear.

At the back, there is what appears to be a continuous taillight strip that wraps around the body. The Kia logo used here isn't exactly the same as the Korean automaker's all-new logo, but that's because the designer completed this project before Kia revealed its latest logo. Budur's Kia looks like it could easily be parked alongside a Bugatti Chiron or Bentley Continental GT and, if you looked past the badge, has the same exotic presence of those wonderful vehicles. With the likes of Bugatti and Ferrari revealing their first fully electric models this decade, electric supercars are set to become the norm in the not too distant future. Whether Kia will ever take on such an ambitious project remains to be seen.
