It's probably safe to say that by now, most of the hate that came with putting a Mustang badge on an EV crossover has abated. The Mustang Mach-E has proven its worth time and time again so there's no doubt that it is more than exciting enough to deserve the Mustang name.

But when compared to the mental Mustang Mach-E 1400, the regular crossover seems pretty bland. Sadly, there aren't many similar machines for the 1400 to compare itself to, except, oh yes, another electric Ford with the 1400 name. Watch as Ford Performance puts the Mach-E 1400 against the Cobra Jet 1400 on the latter's home turf - a drag strip.

It probably doesn't need to be said, but a purpose-built drag car racing against something bigger, heavier, and more versatile is only going to end one way. Despite having all-wheel-drive and jumping the start, the Mach-E 1400 still gets beat in spectacular fashion. Obviously, a fairer rerun happened, but even when the Cobra Jet lights up its rear tires, it still passes the Mach-E with ease.

It's a simple matter of power to weight, and the Mach-E just has more to lug around, as well as a body that is more resistant to cutting through the air. But one benefit of this video is that it highlights how exciting electric performance can be.

Sure, the burnout at the start of the race is relatively silent, and the race itself is even quieter, but with repeatable results that are astonishing to behold, electric drag racers really do make a case for themselves. On the other hand, the Mach-E 1400 highlights, despite its loss in these races, that a big electric crossover doesn't have to be boring. With these things in mind, we can't help but wonder when Ford will finally build an electric Mustang coupe for the road, but if reports are to be believed, the Mustang 'brand' as a whole will be getting very silent very soon.
