Genesis and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have jointly announced that the 2023 Electrified G80 luxury sedan has received the highly sought-after Top Safety Pick Plus designation following rigorous crash tests. The Electrified G80 joins the rest of the Genesis lineup, including the GV60, GV70, GV80, and G70, with this award. For those who haven't kept count, this is the fourth year in a row that the entire Genesis lineup has earned the top score from the IIHS.

"Genesis continues to prioritize safety at the forefront of everything we do," said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. "We are pleased with this recognition from IIHS, further highlighting the importance we put on keeping our customers safe."

Although the aftermath in the video included above may not look so pretty, the Electrified G80 comes packed with a comprehensive suite of standard safety technologies. Some of these include forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, and blind-spot collision warning.

All new Genesis models come standard with eight or more airbags, an advanced platform with plenty of passenger compartment protection and reinforcement in specific areas prone to heavy damage following a crash. Hyundai Motor Group, Genesis' parent company, utilizes advanced high-strength steel for added rigidity and safety. What's new for model year 2023, in all Genesis vehicles, is standard Connected Care.

This expiration-free service offers owners a constantly running connection for safety systems like automatic collision notification, enhanced roadside assistance, and SOS emergency assistance. As long as the vehicle has access to a cellular network, Connected Care will always be turned on. Earning a Top Safety Pick Plus award escapes many new models for a variety of reasons, such as headlights not being deemed powerful enough. The fact that every new Genesis model has received this designation speaks volumes.

"We are pleased to earn this IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award recognizing our high standards for safety in the Electrified G80 and across our lineup," said Brian Latouf, global chief safety officer of Genesis.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80, with an EPA-estimated range of 282 miles on a single charge and a total of 365 horsepower, is on sale at select dealerships across the country. Pricing begins at $79,825, before any federal and state tax credits.
