Watching someone deserving receive a free car is a heartwarming experience, and no one is more deserving in 2020 than the frontline workers who put themselves at risk during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mazda has already decided to reward 50 of these heroes with a new Miata 100th Anniversary Edition, but Hyundai is also finding a way to help.
Hyundai partnered with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to honor frontline workers who have been impacted by the pandemic. All month long, as part of Ellen's Hyundai Fun Days, the show has given away cars to deserving families. The workers and their families received the keys to a brand-new 2021 Hyundai Palisade in the ultra-luxurious Calligraphy trim, no less.
The most recent Palisade giveaway went to single mom and frontline nurse Shirley. Shirley had to leave her three daughters at home in Texas to help fight against Covid-19 in New York City. Ellen speaks with Shirley about her experiences on the front lines before presenting a box filled with $15,000 as a gift from Hyundai. She then tells Shirley and her daughters that there is another gift, but they have to go outside to receive it. Shirley, now in tears, is handed the keys to her brand-new Palisade.
As a reminder, Ellen couldn't have picked a better car as a giveaway for a deserving family. The Hyundai Palisade earned CarBuzz's 2020 Family Fun Award, and the new Calligraphy offers even more luxury than what was available last year. With an MSRP of $47,750 plus the $15,000 gift, Shirley and her family are definitely going home happy for the holidays.
A week earlier, Ellen invited firefighter Jerwayne on the show with his wife Shawanda and their seven children. In addition to risking his life as a firefighter and a second job as an ambulance driver, Jerwayne also adopted five of his children and became a foster parent. Ellen shocks the family with a giant box on stage, which is then lifted to reveal a new Palisade... with $50,000 in the trunk!
