Elon Musk has made some bold claims about the upcoming Tesla Roadster. According to the CEO, the electric sports car will be able to do 0-62-mph in just 1.9 seconds, making it the fastest production car ever, and deliver a range of 620 miles. His latest claim? Our Back to the Future fantasies might come true because the CEO says Roadster will be able to fly – or at least hover over the ground. Yes, really.

Replying to a user on Twitter who posted an animated GIF of a DeLorean from Back to the Future hovering over the ground, Musk teased that "the new Roadster will actually do something like this." The Tweet caught the attention of famous tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, who assumed Musk was joking. "The thing is I feel like you're not joking," he wrote. "I'm not", Musk replied. "Will use SpaceX cold gas thruster system with ultra high pressure air in a composite over-wrapped pressure vessel in place of the 2 rear seats."

This isn't the first time Elon Musk has hinted the Tesla Roadster will have the ability to fly. Last year, Musk said there will be a SpaceX option package available for the Tesla Roadster with ten small rocket thrusters that will "dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering" and possibly "allow a Tesla to fly."

It's an outrageous claim, but let's not forget this is the man who sent a car into space not long ago, and Musk doesn't tend to joke about upcoming new features for Tesla cars.
