It's not every day when BMW launches a new special edition model, but today is one of those rare occasions. Meet the 2022 BMW X5 Black Vermillion Edition, limited to just 350 examples for the US. Starting with the already impressive X5 xDrive40i, the German automaker has opted for a bold black and red color theme inside and out.
There's the Shadowline high-gloss black kidney grille with red vertical bars that provides a distinct contrast to the BMW Individual Frozen Black Metallic exterior paint. Look closely and you'll spot Darkened M Shadowline Adaptive Full LED headlights with Laserlight contained within the blue X design - a unique styling trait not found on the standard xDrive40i model.
BMW has also tacked on the M Sport package consisting of more aggressive front and rear bumpers and M high-gloss extended Shadowline exterior trim. Riding on a set of handsome 22-inch, double-spoke light alloy wheels with a trim-exclusive matt grey finish, you'll find red M Sport brake calipers. Out back there's an M Sport exhaust system to provide even more attitude.
The cabin is packed with upgraded content as well, like full Merino black leather with red piping and contrast stitching for both front and rear seats. Even the floor pats receive the same color scheme. An Edition logo in piano black can be found on the cupholder cover.
Carbon fiber trim surrounds the iDrive controller, the gear selector knob, and the start/stop button, something else not found on the regular xDrive40i. Nor is the leather dashboard. Other standard features include a Harmon Kardon sound system, heated steering wheel, glass controls, anthracite headliner, and the Premium and Parking Assistance packages.
Power comes by way of the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with 335 horsepower paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Like X5s, (and the X3, X4, X6, and X7) this one is built at BMW's massive Spartanburg, South Carolina production facility. Priced at $82,300, not including the $995 destination fee, production is slated to begin this September and will conclude in December. BMW didn't say when dealers will begin taking orders but it's highly advisable to inquire already if you're interested.
