Although the rumors about this production have been ongoing for more than ten years, it seems that the Enzo Ferrari biopic, depicting the life of the legendary car manufacturer, has finnally come one step closer to hitting the silver screen. Speaking to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Hollywood superstar Robert De Niro announced that he will be playing the ultimate Italian automaker in an upcoming production, stating that production will soon be underway and that it is expected to be released as soon as 2016.

The film, which is reported to be an extremely high-budget production, will be produced by photographer/producer Gianni Bozzacchi. "The film will be titled Ferrari and will be based on an epic story," said Bozzacchi, quashing previous reports that it would be named "Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, and the Races." Whatever the title, Bozzachi promises that "It will have a high budget and will cover a wide span – from 1945 to the eighties in a twisted game of eras and episodes." According to De Niro, "It is an honor and a joy to tell the life of an extraordinary man who revolutionized the automotive world."
