The 2021 BMW M3 will arrive next year and while most will be content with its significant power increase and available all-wheel-drive system, others may not get over its controversial new grille. For those buyers who think the new M3's nostrils are too large, the outgoing F80 generation has become a tremendous bargain on the used market. In fact, a very special F80 M3 is now up for auction on Bring A Trailer with a not-so-outrageous price tag as of this writing.

The car in question is a 2017 BMW M3 30 Jahre Edition. This special edition model was built to commemorate the M3's 30th anniversary with a low-volume run. BMW only built 500 examples of the M3 30 Jahre Edition, with just 150 of those making it to the United States. Now is your chance to own one of the 150.

As with the other 149 Jahre Edition cars in the US, this one comes finished in a special Macao Blue metallic paint job with unique black and blue leather inside. BMW also offered the car with Frozen Silver metallic in other markets, but not for the US.

Buyers could originally choose between a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, with this car sporting the latter mated to the M3's 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. All Jahre Editions come with the M Competition Package, upping the output to 444 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The package also throws in an adaptive M suspension, 20-inch Competition wheels, and more.

When it was new, the M3 Jahre Edition sold for $84,245 with the manual or $87,145 with the DCT, making it around $20,000 more than the base M3 at the time. With four days remaining on the auction, the current bid of $40,000 seems like a relative bargain compared to the original MSRP. The car currently has 29,000 miles on the odometer and should be the perfect addition to a BMW collector's garage.
