Farah Pits Porsche Cayman R Against BMW 1 Series M

Comparison

Stuttgart’s top-end Cayman does battle with Munich’s pocket rocket.

For Matt Farah's latest episode of The Smoking Tire, the lightest and fastest version of the current-generation Cayman, the Cayman R, is put up against the BMW 1 Series M coupe to see how they compare. The Cayman R packs a 3.4-liter straight six engine, good for around 330 horsepower, and shifts from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 175 mph. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe, manages 335 hp courtesy of its 3.0-liter straight-six engine, and equals the Cayman R's 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds.

On paper there doesn't seem much to differentiate the models, save for around $30k. But who cares about some numbers on paper? As always, it's about the drive. Watch the video to see how Farah rates these capable sports cars.
