While the first reviews are just beginning to arrive for The Fate of the Furious - the eighth installment of the Furious franchise - the movie is expected to earn a huge amount of money later this week. The summer blockbuster season is about to start, and according to Deadline, The Fate of the Furious is projected to earn between $375 million to $440 million this weekend alone. In order to outdo its predecessor, Furious 7, it needs to earn at least $397.7 million over the weekend.

Furious 7, which premiered at this same time in 2015, was infamously plagued with extensive script re-writes and re-shoots due to the untimely and tragic death of star Paul Walker. The new movie, fortunately, seems to have had a fairly smooth production, and was directed by acclaimed director F. Gary Gray. The studio is going all-out for the movie's debut, with it premiering on a total of 20,000 locations in 63 countries. It'll also debut on 688 IMAX screens, 392 of which are in China. Bottom line: Universal has so much confidence in Fate of the Furious earning a colossal amount of money, it's giving it the most ambitious worldwide distribution in the studio's history.

Furious 7 eventually went on to earn $1.5 billion worldwide, becoming the fastest movie to pass the $1 billion threshold. The new movie, thanks to an intense marketing campaign, returning and new cast members, such as Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren and Scott Eastwood, could very well end up exceeding those figures.
