Its police livery is no coincidence.
Dodge has created a certain one-off Durango that we think will be an instant hit. Question is, will it ever see production? Meet "Speed Trap," a one-of-a-kind Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 – the very same one under the hood of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. That means 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. Oh yeah. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Speed Trap concept (yes, it's officially a concept) was built by SRT Engineering for the annual One Lap of America road rally competition, a 4,000-mile event that covers eight tracks in seven states in just seven days. It's hardcore. Dodge felt it only made sense to enter a Durango such as this.
The event kicked off yesterday, Saturday, May 4 at the Tire Rack corporate headquarters in South Bend, Indiana and will conclude the following Saturday at the same location, but there will be numerous stops along the way, including at Brainerd International Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota, Blackhawk Farms in South Beloit, Illinois, and NCM Motorsports Park East Course in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Speed Trap's police livery is there not only because it looks cool, not to mention kind of frightening for speeders, but also to help promote the 2019 Durango Pursuit police SUV. And no, the Durango cop SUV doesn't have the Hellcat. Relax. But it does have the formidable 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 hp. Fair warning.
Anyway, Speed Trap also features some additional modifications including a low-restriction cat-back exhaust system, Kooks long-tube headers, high-flow catalytic converters, and Mopar lowering springs. The right set of tires were also necessary for such a grueling race, thus it's equipped with 305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero rubber.
David Hakim of Dodge Garage and David Carr of SRT Engineering are currently driving the Pursuit Speed Trap in the Tire Rack Brock Yates' One Lap of America competition. Be on the lookout.
