Ferrari 296 GTB Upgraded With Fresh Styling And 888 HP

Tuning / 14 Comments

The Italian supercar is taken to a whole new level.

The Ferrari 296 GTB is a revolutionary supercar for the brand. As its first mainline V6-powered car, the 296 takes advantage of thmodern advancements made in electromobility. With the intent of turning the intensity up a few notches, German-based tuner DMC has provided this special car with a conclusive performance upgrade as well as revisions to the aerodynamics.

As standard, the supercar employs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that works in conjunction with a unique electric motor setup to produce a combined power output of 818 horsepower and 546 lb-ft. DMC has upped the power figure to 888 hp by fiddling with the internal combustion engine only. The Squalo package employs a series of steps made to arrive at this figure.

The first step saw DMC modifying the controls for the engine management system via an in-house developed module. This piece of hardware introduces a custom map that alters the car's fuel injection and ignition. After this, it applied an electronic boost pressure control that not only increases power but also enhances the car's throttle response and in-gear acceleration.

Looking at the gasoline engine in isolation, DMC's optimizations see power increase from 653 hp to 723 hp, enabling the GTB to sprint from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 191 mph. The dual-rotor single-stator axial flux motor has not been touched at all, which means it retains its standard power contribution of 165 hp and 232 lb-ft.

To complement the power, the 296 GTB Squalo benefits from a set of improved forged carbon fiber aerodynamic panels designed with cutting-edge software. Enhancing the downforce on the supercar is a redesigned front two-piece lip, rear spoiler and diffuser, and side skirts. To round the look off, the tuner has fitted a set of 21-inch front and 22-inch rear Pur Wheels finished in black. A set of tailored sports springs lowers the ride by 1.4-inches.

DMC says that, with its Squalo package, it wishes to embrace the modern age of crypto and NFTs. That's why it has incorporated a cryptocurrency payment method for its customers as well as an exclusive NFT that comes in the shape of a 3D copy of the car pictured here. The tuner says that the eventual owner will be able to interact with this piece on Facebook's Metaverse or its augmented reality app.
