Novitec has refined the Ferrari 296 GTB, giving the mid-engined supercar more performance and style thanks to subtle enhancements.

Let's start with the performance upgrades. The 3.0-liter V6 engine is paired with a rear-mounted electric motor to produce 819 horsepower. The tuning company has boosted the combined outputs to 856 hp, improving the already remarkable capabilities. This comes from the Novitec-developed custom turbo inlets and specially made 100-cell metal catalysts.

The exhaust system is made from either stainless steel or Inconel, a hi-tech material used in Formula 1 racing. Customers can also elect to equip the exhaust system with 999 fine gold plating. A delightful exhaust note accompanies the new system, and if actively controlled butterfly valves are fitted, the driver can adjust the note to their liking.

There's also an option for a mesh insert at the rear for the exhaust pipes, which allows hot air to escape from the engine bay.

The German tuner has said that more performance upgrades are on the way, so we could see power boosted beyond the 1,000 horsepower mark.

Novitec is still working on an aerodynamic body kit for the 296 GTB. The tuning firm currently offers aftermarket wheels for the mid-engined Ferrari, with exclusive Vossen-designed wheels in various diameters. When teamed with the optional Novitec sports springs, the sophisticated supercar looks even more supple and aggressive while improving the handling.

Seen here are the NF 10 wheels painted in high-gloss black. This model has staggered wheels (21 and 22 inches at the front and rear, respectively). Novitec says customers can choose between 72 colors and several surface finishes.

Already a low-slung car, the Novitec-enhanced Ferrari can be equipped with a front lift system that raises the nose of the 296 GTB by approximately 1.6 inches. This will save owners the expense (and embarrassment) of scraping the front lip spoiler.

As you would expect from any big-time tuner, the interior of the Ferrari can be trimmed "in virtually any desired color," says Novitec. Maranello's craftsmen already do a stellar job trimming the 296's cabin, so we'd be interested to see how the aftermarket firm can improve upon Italy's finest.

We're excited to see how the future body kit will change the looks of the Ferrari, as tuning companies have a reputation for ruining the lines of elegant supercars. We've seen this several times; Mansory recently destroyed the gorgeous Maserati MC20 with an extravagant and vulgar body kit.

In the upmarket tuner realm, Novitec is more subtle than others and has proven this with the tastefully done SF90 Stradale, which wears a few simple carbon fiber enhancements and aftermarket wheels. Interestingly, it's not only Italian exotica that Novitec specializes in. Tesla fans can also specify aesthetic improvements for the Model Y and Model X electric SUVs, giving both a decidedly sporty look.
