Ferrari 458 Recalled Because People Can Get Stuck in its Trunk

You can't make stuff like this up.

Ok, now this one is just funny, if not somewhat bizarre. Ferrari, in coordination with the NHTSA, has just issued a rather unusual recall for the 458 Italia and Spider. Supposedly it’s possible for an individual to get stuck in the trunk. No joke. Stranger things have happened. According to the notice from the NHTSA: "In the event an individual is trapped in the trunk and the latch system does not release the trunk lid, it increases the risk of personal injury or possibly death."

Why anyone would be in this car’s trunk in the first place is beyond us, except, of course, if they’re being kidnapped. That could happen on occasion. All told, 3,082 458 Italias and Spiders manufactured between May 5, 2010 and May 20, 2013 are subject to the recall. Obviously owners will be notified and Ferrari dealers will modify the existing trunk latch system with a new component that’ll solve things. In the meantime owners ought to be careful about that trunk, as if getting inside it was ever a good idea.
