Coming off its official debut at last month's Frankfurt Auto Show, the drop top version of the Ferrari 458 is quite possibly one of the most gorgeous supercars built in the last several years. And now, Automotive News is reporting that the 458 Spider will have an official starting price of $257,000. While this number isn't official, it sounds to be in the right ballpark. So what exactly do you get for over a quarter of a million bucks? A 4.5-liter, 570hp naturally-aspirated V8 that sounds even better with the top down.

Weighing in as just 111 pounds more than its coupe hard top sibling, the Spider promises near equal performance along with its lightweight aluminum folding top. This has been engineered to fit in front of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or performance. Those domes behind the seats actually channel wind over the rear bodywork to air intakes that will in turn be used to cool the engine, clutch, and gearbox. Sales are expected to begin shortly, so we'll be sure to report the final price once Ferrari makes it official.
