In 2019, Ferrari launched as many as five new models last year including the Roma, F8 Tributo, F8 Spider, 812 GTS, and SF90 Stradale. In 2020, however, things will be much quieter. Both literally and figuratively.

Later this year, Ferrari will launch two new models as part of its plan to launch 15 new models by 2022. While there are no specific details about these mystery models yet, one of them is likely to be a new hybrid supercar that will slot below the current SF90 Stradale flagship. As we already know, Ferrari wants to appear like it's embracing electrification in future models.

Earlier this year, our spies caught a camouflaged Ferrari 488 GTB mule undergoing testing with a new hybrid powertrain, but we can now see it in action thanks to a series of videos published by simonemasetti_photography via Instagram page cochespies.

Captured at the automaker's test track in Fiorano, Italy, the video was shot from a distance so we don't get a close look at the mystery prototype, but this appears to be the same Ferrari 488 test mule that was spied earlier this year. However, we can hear the distinct sound of a V6 engine. Ferrari's new V6 powertrain has been in the pipeline for several years now, but there's a good chance it will be electrified to boost the supercar's output.

It doesn't sound as aggressive as the twin-turbo V8 powering cars like the F8 Tributo and Roma, and while a V6-powered Prancing Horse sound sacrilegious, the smaller setup will allow Ferrari to comply with increasingly strict emissions regulations.

Without electrification, reports have claimed the 2.9-liter V6 powerplant produces 610 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Adding electrical assistance is expected to boost the putout to 723 horsepower and nearly 800 lb-ft of torque, positioning it below the 989-hp Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Ferrari's new V6 was originally expected to power a new entry-level sports car reviving the Dino name, but the project has been postponed. As for the remaining new model Ferrari will unveil later this year, a spider version of the SF90 Stradale seems likely.
