California prototype caught testing twin-turbo V8 at Fiorano. New entry-level model in the works?
At the start of the year we reported Ferrari was considering powering the California’s replacement with a turbocharged V8. While Maranello denied the rumors, claiming the test mules spotted on Fiorano were modified to limit noise, the latest video, courtesy of Marchettino, cannot be ignored. The latest prototype spied on Ferrari’s test track is clearly turbocharged, indicating that the 2014 California could run the same twin-turbo V8 engine Ferrari recently developed for the Maserati Quattroporte.
The 3.8-liter V8's 523 horses hustles the four-door to 60 in 4.6 seconds. Considering the current California already runs faster (at 3.8 seconds) with less power (480 hp), the extra juice should make the next Cali all the more so.
