A pair of Ferrari-red Jeeps have been given out to the Ferrari F1 drivers at Maranello.
Ferrari's 2012 Formula One car official release was pushed back due to very heavy snowfall at Ferrari HQ in Maranello located in northern Italy. The Fiat-Chrysler Group saw this as the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the hype surrounding the F1 launch and utilize the availability of their world-class drivers to promote the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa posed for photos with their new company cars which were decked-out in Ferrari's signature Rosso Corso.
A contrasting matte black front grille, black roof and racing stripe really add to the Jeep's appearance. Carbon fiber trim with white touches here and there doesn't hurt either. Rosso Corso leather and yellow stitching on the interior further give off the impression that this is the epitome of a Ferrari-themed Jeep. "We're excited and proud to be able to share 'Ferrari-style' custom-built versions of the most powerful and best handling Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 ever with two of the most talented drivers in the world," said Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations for the SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.
Paretta continued "We know that both Fernando and Felipe will feel right at home in our ultimate performance SUVs that are identically built with classic Ferrari styling cues and one-of-a-kind Rosso Corsa exteriors. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 brings a combination of Jeep's world-class capability to the road or the race track along with unparalleled luxury and refinement and advanced innovative technologies for all driving enthusiasts." These special editions have a 1.5-inch lowered suspension and they sit on a set of blacked-out 20-inch alloy wheels. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 packs a 6.4-liter Hemi V8.
The engine can put out 470 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. It can sprint from 0-62mph in an impressive 5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 160mph. Check out the gallery of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso receiving their very own special edition Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s in Maranello.
