At the 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest, Azerbaijani automotive designer Samir Sadikhov submitted his Ferrari Xezri concept as a student at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) and scooped second prize behind South Korea's Hongik University. Now he's revisited the design with a racing-themed twist. Inspired by the racing-spec F40, the Xezri Competizione Edition sports a fresh assortment of aerodynamic components for a track-only racing version of his mid-engine supercar concept.

The additions include a larger front splitter, fender vents, protruding side skirts, a larger rear diffuser, a roof scoop that extends all the way to the rear wing, and a new set of wheels. Whether he plans to submit his latest design for this year's competition remains to be seen. But looking at the renderings, we can't help but notice some similarities to the McLaren P1, leading us to wonder if Frank Stephenson and his team at McLaren Automotive hadn't taken some inspiration from Sadikhov's original design in the first place. Then again, maybe Sadikhov borrowed some from the P1 in refreshing his design. Whad do you think?
