It will be available in US dealerships later this year.
While the fabled Fiat 500 hatchback is being killed off in the US market, its 500X subcompact crossover sibling continues to live on. To celebrate the Italian automaker's 120th anniversary, Fiat is launching a new special edition version of the 500X aptly named the '120th Anniversary Edition.' If it seems familiar, Fiat introduced the special edition model for Europe at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, but it's now coming to America.
Distinguishing the special-edition 500X is a custom-appearance package that adds a black-painted accent-color roof, creating a two-tone exterior paint scheme. Additional features unique to the special edition model include unique 18-inch black-finish wheels, LED headlamps, 120th anniversary exterior badging, and black body-side moldings and mirror caps. Inside, the 500X 120th Anniversary Edition features a black-painted instrument panel.
"With standard intelligent all-wheel drive and an all-new 1.3-liter turbocharged engine that generates best-in-class torque, our Italian-designed Fiat 500X is built to turn heads in one of the fastest-growing segments in the industry," said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat North America. "This special-edition Fiat 500X offers customers a sleek, new customization option."
Like the regular model, the Fiat 500X 120th Anniversary Edition is powered by a new 1.3-liter turbocharged engine introduced for the 2019 mid-cycle update good for 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, which is sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission to an all-wheel-drive system that utilizes a disconnecting rear axle by reducing parasitic loss when all-wheel drive is not needed. This results in an improved economy of up to 3 miles per gallon compared to the outgoing engine.
New daylight running lights, LED taillights and full-LED headlights, usually an optional extra, come as standard for the 120th Anniversary Edition.
Four colors are available for the Fiat 500X 120th Anniversary Edition: Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic), Milano (Ivory Tri-coat), Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat) and Nero Cinema (Black Clear Coat).
Arriving in dealers in Q4 2019, the 120th Anniversary Edition package will be available as a $995 option for the 500X Pop model, which starts at $24,740 excluding destination.
