Modern technology has changed how we pay for goods and services. Instead of using cash or even a credit card, customers can easily tap their phones to pay for items at the store without even having to take out a wallet. Automakers have noticed this trend and are now doing their part to make the purchasing process even easier. The Chevrolet Marketplace was one of the first systems to offer in-car payments and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) quickly followed suit with its own version called Uconnect Marketplace.

Found in the dashboards of most Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram products, Uconnect infotainment is among the most intuitive systems on the market today. Uconnect was already great but it is about to get even better because the Shell Oil Company, the largest fuel network in the United States, has just announced it will start accepting payments at Shell-branded stations through the Uconnect Market.

Say, for example, you drive a 2020 Ram 1500 or 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Uconnect Marketplace will allow you to navigate to the nearest Shell station, pay for the gas without stepping out of the vehicle, and begin fueling without even having to interact with the pump. We envision FCA owners enjoying this feature when temperatures dip, so they don't have to stand out in the cold while they pay for gas. Even in warmer climates, the convenience of paying for gas in your vehicle will save time and energy.

"In an increasingly busy and mobile world, customers are looking at every moment of their day as an opportunity to make the most of their time," said Sydney Kimball, Vice President, Fuel Sales and Marketing Americas for Shell Oil Products US. "Shell is constantly looking for ways to improve the retail experience and pursuing opportunities to expand on digital payment innovation for our customers."

FCA drivers can also take advantage of the Shell Fuel Rewards program. New accounts will get Gold Status for the first six months and everyone using the Uconnet Marketplace to pay for gas will earn an additional 5¢/gallon in savings on every fuel purchase through February 29, 2020. This means Golf Status members can earn 10¢/gal (instead of 5¢/gal) and Silver Status member will earn 8¢/gallon (instead of 3¢/gal). You can access this feature on select 2019 and 2020 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles.

Shell is the only gas station available at the moment be we imagine FCA will offer more choices as it expands its partnerships with other companies. In addition to gas, FCA drivers can also use the Uconnect marketplace to pay for Domino's pizza.
