Even amongst the hotted-up John Cooper Works models from Mini, the GP stands out as the most hardcore variant and is only offered every few years and only on the three-door body. The 2021 Mini John Cooper Works GP is the most extreme variant yet with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine now sending 302 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. In addition to being the quickest Mini ever, the new GP will also be extremely exclusive.

Only 3,000 units will be offered worldwide with around 400 to 500 of those coming to the United States. Mini wanted to make sure that only its most loyal enthusiasts were allotted one of the 3,000 cars, so it ran a video submission contest to see who would get the very first example, #0001.

NY-based YouTube Vlogger and current Mini owner, Nick Tubbs, was selected as the lucky winner, picked from customers who already had a reservation for the limited edition JCW GP. Tubbs submitted a 30-second video outlining why he should be the one to get the number 0001 car. In the video, he tries on all of his Mini-branded clothing and hops into one of his two Mini vehicles. He also mentions his YouTube channel, which is devoted to the Mini brand. There could be no doubting his status as the number one Mini fan around.

"The Mini John Cooper Works GP is a legendary car for the Mini brand that has always been admired by the community, especially by the true enthusiasts," said Mike Peyton, Vice President, Mini of the Americas. "It was obvious to our team that Nick is one of those enthusiasts who lives and breathes the MINI brand. We know he will take good care of our beloved Mini GP 3 #0001, and enjoy the most powerful Mini ever built."

Tubbs is seen in a video taking contactless delivery of his new car with Peyton, at Keeler Mini in Latham, New York. Deliveries of the car have officially begun with a starting MSRP of $44,900, plus a $850 Destination & Handling fee.
