With 668 supercharged horsepower going out to the rear wheels through an available six-speed manual transmission, the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a unique motoring experience in 2022. Perhaps that's why dealers are able to charge hefty markups for this car and the first 250 units with a serialized number plate are already sold out. We've already seen the CT5-V Blackwing and its CT4-V Blackwing sibling sell for big bucks at auction, collecting $430,000 for charity with the first two (VIN 001) models to roll off the assembly line.

Cadillac just auctioned off another special CT5-V Blackwing, this time the first of 120 units of 120th Anniversary Edition celebrating, you guessed it, the company's 120th birthday. The American luxury automaker revealed the new special edition Blackwing at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction before auctioning the first example just minutes later.

The first CT5-V Blackwing 120th Anniversary Edition brought in $250,000, the full amount of which will go to the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Foundation. That's a lot of money to spend on a car that retails for $83,995 (in standard guise), but the SAE Foundation's mission is to increase access to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) experiences for students worldwide - a noble goal. Barrett-Jackson waived all fees and commissions for the charity sale.

"Everyone at Cadillac is thrilled with this auction result. We proudly support the SAE Foundation and are grateful to Barrett-Jackson for providing this opportunity," said Rory Harvey, vice president, Global Cadillac. "We will help create a new sustainability-focused challenge for high-school students across the country, as well as provide hands-on immersive STEM learning for students in under-resourced communities."

As the name suggests, Cadillac will limit this special edition to just 120 cars. The Blackwing auctioned at Barrett-Jackson, the first in the company's new Collector Series, is VIN 1902, representing the founding year of Cadillac. The 120th Anniversary Edition gets special touches including a serialized VIN between 1902-2022, sill plate with the Cadillac Crest design, B-pillar builders' plate with graphic and commemorative year, shifter medallion (for manual-equipped cars), steering wheel plate, certificate of authenticity, and Spring Mountain V-Performance Academy driving experience.
