He spent $1 million on the first Stingray, another million on the Stingray Convertible, and now NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick has spent the same amount of cheese on the first Corvette Z06. The winning bid was made at the West Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson auction, and the million dollars raised will go to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. A cancer survivor himself, Hendrick is a big supporter of charities that undertake cancer research, while he also has an obvious love affair with the new Vette.

The first Z06 will be presented at a special dinner event later this month. First presented in Detroit and more recently in Geneva, the Corvette Z06 won't hit showrooms until early next year. Closely based on the C7.R race car, the Z06 comes with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 rated at 625 hp and 635 lb-ft of torque, optional eight-speed auto, and advanced infotainment system.
