At least it's going to a good cause.
Since the Ram 1500 TRX debuted last year, demand for the high-performance pickup has been astronomically high. Despite having a starting price tag of $90,265, the Launch Edition sold out in just three hours. This special example, on the other hand, sold for a wallet-crunching $410,000. What makes this particular pickup so special to be worth such an insane amount of money?
Out of the 702 Launch Models entering production, this is the very first model that rolled off the production line. VIN #001 was sold at the recent Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction and all proceeds will be going to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan's 2-1-1 helpline to help veterans and their families.
"When Ram 1500 TRX VIN 001 rolled off the assembly line, it instantly became an incredibly exciting one-of-a-kind collectible truck, and that was reflected by the winning bid," said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer at Stellantis. "More importantly, we're thrilled that the first Ram 1500 TRX raised significant funds that will go directly to the United Way for Southeast Michigan's 2-1-1 helpline to provide services to veterans and their families."
As well as owning the first-ever Ram 1500 TRX, the winning bidder will also receive a presentation box with a book documenting the truck's development, exclusive photos and video, a speed-form model, and a Ram truck cover.
Being a Launch Edition model, the Ram 1500 TRX VIN 001 is distinguished by Anvil Gray paint and a center console badge finished in red and brushed aluminum highlighting its limited production.
Other standard equipment in the Launch Edition includes carbon fiber interior trim, a color accent package, a head-up display, bead-lock-capable wheels, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Like every version of the TRX, the Launch Edition is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
