After nearly twelve years on the market, the Volvo XC90 requires a major overhaul and these spy shots reveal what the Swedish carmaker has in store for the luxury SUV. Taken on a frozen lake in northern Sweden, the pictures show the next-gen XC90 clad in plenty of camo. Despite the heavy disguise, it does sport some similarities with the Concept XC Coupe Volvo unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show such as the beltline that sweeps up high past the C pillar.

The concept's rectangular grille and headlights infused with T-shaped LED elements are expected to carry over to production. The current model's 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine will be swapped out in favor of turbocharged four-pots powered by both gasoline and diesel. Volvo's new eight-speed automatic gearbox will come as standard, while a plug-in hybrid is expected further down the line. The new Volvo XC90 will launch in early 2015, if not late 2014.
